Holy mother of Poo.
That was...
THE BEST LAN WE'VE THROWN TO DATE
As anyone who has been to the previous events would know, that went smoother than any of the LAN events we've thrown previously. Although we had a few server problems, the occasional connectivity puzzles, and the ongodly onslaught of Poo, everything went smooth as could be.
I was at the church to set up for the event at 3:30. By 4:30 I had six people helping out, including some of the best tech staff available. The network worked like a champ and, despite some minor problems, all went well (as most problems were located between the keyboard and the chair). We had absolutely NO power issues whatsoever, which made everything go quite smoothly.
Our DJ, Jake, worked tirelessly to complete one of the most epic playlists of the century, and I wanted to give him a special thanks for that. It kept us well entertained throughout the duration of the event, and provided good ambience for an otherwise sailor-like swearing atmosphere.
Now, for the more awesome stuff! Read on, guys.
The Halo 3 competition went pretty much as expected. A few
minor hitches, complaints, and the occasional 'accidental' glitching.
My good friend Jarid helped immensly by managing the tournaments, which
will become a big task as the events get bigger. Nick Smith also
stepped up to the plate, volenteering to help manage the tournaments as
they grow, and as we move into the MiniLAN sub-events. Anyway, the
final winners of the Halo 3 competition are as follows:
1st Place: Rush Tactics
2nd Place: Two Gunz Up
The members of the first place team will be admitted, free of charge, to the next BurningLAN event. They are, as of now, crowned as the reigning champs! The members of the second place team will be admitted, free of charge, to the first ever MiniLAN event!
I
want to thank both teams for a great tournament, and I hope to see them
all return to defend their titles (or take someone elses...)
Unfortunately,
we didn't make enough to give prizes for the Gears of War tournament,
so it just didn't happen. I am VERY sorry about this (you guys did
tell me to lower the price though...). However! Gears is going to be a
tournament, I PROMISE, as the LANs continue to grow. You have my word
on that.
The Unreal Tournament competition was an
absolute slaughterhouse. Poo, aka Vincent Vega, aka Keith Estrella, aka
God, absolutely destroyed the competition. Coming in first almost every
time, he took home the gold. After the main rounds, tied for second was
Kinikibu, aka Josh Mellott-Lillie, and Sunday910, aka David Sunday, who
fought to the death in a fierce one-on-one. Sunday emerged to claim
second, and close behind was Kinikibu for third.
The
Super Smash Brothers: Brawl tournament was a sight to be seen. Two big
projectors, one immense battle. It was bracketed down to a final
winner: Bryan Gruver.
Congratulations to all my tournament winners! We hope to see you at the next LAN!
The
raffle was really something too. We gave out t-shirts left and right,
posters, BAWLSACKS, and a 1200w Tiger Series PSU. All of which went to
those who bought the most tickets. Gee, who would have thought?
Another
announcement was made at the LAN party, that we would be holding
MiniLANs on a more frequent basis. Another post will be made
specifically for that, and we hope that all the Xbox players return
post-haste to claim (and reclaim) their titles.
In conclusion I think this was the absolute BEST LAN we
have ever thrown. Over the past year and a half, they have only gotten
better, and I have a feeling that the pattern will continue. So, from
myself and the rest of the BurningLAN staff:
Thanks for fragging!
